One of the most emotional events that has taken place this Memorial Day weekend was one I saw on cable television today. It was called Rolling Thunder XVIII, and it took place in Washington, D.C. Todays Family First Site looks at that event, and the organization that sponsored it. See if you can find the connection between this site, and the famous poem that starts out “Now listen, my children, and you shall hear…”.

The site is called Ride to the Wall, and is a site that is dedicated to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. Their major mission is to publicize the MIA/POW issues that remain unresolved from that war, to educate the public that there were Americans left behind, and to ensure that it never happens again should we have to go to war. At this site you can find out about their annual Rolling Thunder event. This year it featured speeches and presentations by a wide range of veterans, as well as entertainment by the madman of rocknroll, Paul Revere (the connection between the event and the poem, which is titled “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”). Most moving was the speeches by the Gold Star mothers, parents who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Stop on by this site, and prepare to be moved by what you read and see. It is a very appropriate site for Memorial Day, as the men and women of our military have given in more ways that one, some making the ultimate sacrifice, and many are still making it as you read this.
